AMD is going to be divided into two companies, one will focus on design and another will focus on manufacturing. Abu Dhabi based investment company will invest $6 billion into this new venture. AMD will own 44.4% of the new venture named “Foundry Company” and the rest will be owned by ATIC.

AMD’s chief executive said that this is biggest announcement in the history. AMD will now be more financially stronger company. If the transaction will be approved by share holders and other authorities it will come into effect by 2009.

This is a major shift in the processor industry; this change might give more options to customers of processors. Intel will now be the only company that will manufacture it own processors. The manufacturing unit of AMD will employ nearly 1400 employees.
